The Original Washington, Thank You.
A short, 25 minutes away, Washington is a regional cultural center offering the area's finest shopping, dining and entertainment in the heart of the Inner Banks. Located on the Pamlico River, Washington likes to remind visitors it was the first city in America to be named for General George Washington-at the time, the future president of the United States. Founded in 1776, today Washington is a thriving community of approximately 10,000 people. Downtown boasts a number of restaurants and art galleries, not to mention the famed Estuarium, all within walking distance of the waterfront. A number of festivals call Washington home, including Music In the Streets, held monthly.
